About our reporting

Editorial and sourcing policy

Perth News publishes original English-language reporting for readers in Western Australia. We do not translate or reproduce unlicensed newspaper articles. News coverage may help us discover a story, but our published copy is built from verified facts, approved primary material and clearly identified open-licence sources.

How stories are discovered

We monitor public metadata from approved feeds and the GDELT Project. Discovery records contain limited metadata such as a publisher, URL and publication time. We do not store unlicensed publisher article bodies, screenshots or images as part of this process. GDELT is credited solely as a discovery-metadata service. A link surfaced through GDELT does not grant Perth News a licence to copy, translate, adapt or otherwise reuse the linked publisher's content.

Open-licence adaptations

Some stories may be adapted from material that explicitly permits commercial reuse and modification, including qualifying Global Voices text published under a Creative Commons Attribution licence. These articles identify the original author and story, link to the applicable licence, and explain that Perth News translated, edited or expanded the material. Third-party photographs, video, audio, logos and embedded material are excluded unless their own licence has been verified.

Evidence and verification

Articles are generated only from evidence records tied to approved sources such as government releases, public statistics, company announcements, universities, research institutions and event organisers. Dates, names, places and numbers must be traceable to those records. Items with insufficient or conflicting evidence are not published automatically.

AI-assisted reporting

Artificial intelligence may assist with classification, fact extraction and drafting. It is not given paywalled or unlicensed news articles to rewrite. Automated checks reject unsupported claims, direct quotations, excessive textual overlap, repetition, weak or sensational headlines and higher-risk subjects that require editorial review. We sample generated stories for editorial quality before increasing automatic publication volume.

Images and illustrations

A story-specific image is used only when its reuse rights and credit are recorded. Otherwise Perth News uses an original or clearly labelled editorial illustration. We do not reuse an image merely because it appeared with a source article.

Sources and related coverage

Primary sources used as evidence are listed separately from related media coverage. Related links are provided for context and transparency; they do not imply that Perth News has reproduced the linked publication.

Corrections and concerns

If you believe an article contains an error or raises a rights concern, please contact Perth News. Material corrections are dated and displayed with the article. We can update or withdraw an article and cancel pending social posts while it is reviewed.
